One Eighty is a firm of leading global metallurgists and materials engineers. We have been serving clients worldwide for 23 years.

One Eighty was founded by metallurgist and materials engineer Dr Janet Cotton in 2002.

Today, with 23 years of industry partnership, One Eighty is Africa’s most widely scoped ISO 17025:2017 accredited materials and metallurgical testing laboratory.

We are a firm of materials engineers and metallurgists, providing metallurgical testing, metallurgical consulting services, advanced materials testing, and advanced materials consulting services.

One Eighty is a uniquely Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore (BV M&O) approved laboratory and the only materials testing lab in Africa that is a member of the Southern African Stainless Steel Development Association (SASSDA). We are also proud members of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).

We bring high level technology to real life problems in a few different ways.

One way is to help clients figure out why something failed through root cause analysis.  We provide this service to all industry sectors and across the ecosystem of financiers of projects, insurance underwriters, insurance professionals and legal professionals.

We also help people select the right materials for an application, including coatings or bulk materials.  The correct material selected at fabrication can save a lot of money in the long term.

Through our accredited laboratory to ISO 17025:2017 we provide unprecedented turnaround times on large scale WPQR orders for the oil and gas industry and have over 12 years of delivering world class quality results that can be relied upon to mitigate risk, on time, every time.
