One Eighty was founded by renowned metallurgist and materials engineer Dr Janet Cotton in 2002.
Today, with 23 years of industry partnership, One Eighty is Africa’s most widely scoped ISO 17025:2017 accredited materials and metallurgical testing laboratory, serving over 1,400 clients globally.
One Eighty is a firm of materials engineers and metallurgists, providing metallurgical testing, metallurgical consulting services, advanced materials testing, and advanced materials consulting services.
One Eighty is a uniquely Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore approved laboratory, and the only materials testing lab in Africa that is a SASSDA (Southern African Stainless Steel Development Association) Member. One Eighty is also a member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC)

Our Accreditations and Memberships:
Through SANAS, we are ISO 17025:2017 accredited for the widest range of metallugical tests of all materials testing laboratories in Africa.
SANAS is responsible for carrying out accreditations in respect of conformity assessments mandated through the Accreditation for Conformity Assessment, Calibration and Good Laboratory Practice Act (Act 19 of 2006).
Bureau Veritas is a French company specialized in testing, inspection and certification founded in 1828. It operates in a variety of sectors, including Building & Infrastructure, Agri-food & Commodities, Marine & Offshore, Industry, Certification and Consumer Products. We are approved by Bureau Veritas for our range of accredited materials testing in the Marine and Offshore industry.

The Southern Africa Stainless Steel Development Association(Sassda), is one of the most active stainless steel industry associations in the world and has, since 1964, been involved in increasing the awareness and use of stainless steel in Southern Africa.
The International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation or ILAC started as a conference in 1977 with the aim of developing international cooperation for facilitating trade by promotion of the acceptance of accredited test and calibration results
The Southern African Institute of Welding (SAIW) is a non-profit technical organisation dedicated to furthering standards in welding-fabrication and related technologies. Established in 1948, it is a founder member of the International Institute of Welding (IIW).
