DSC
Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) is a thermal analysis instrument that measures changes of a sample’s physical properties as a function of temperature. It is an apparatus that determines heat flow and temperature associated with a material’s phase transitions. As the temperature changes, DSC will measure a radiated or absorbed heat quantity by the sample on the basis of a temperature difference between the sample of interest and a reference sample. DSC provides thermal properties of a material and thus provides a connection between temperature and the material’s specific physical properties. DSC is used to observe a material’s phase transitions, such as fusion, melting, crystallisation, and glass transition.
TGA
Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) is a technique that allows for the measurement of the mass change of a sample over time as the temperature is changed. This is a type of thermal analysis that provides important chemical and physical properties of a material, such as thermal decomposition, chemisorptions, phase transitions, and oxidation/reduction reactions, to name a few.
