Fatigue Testing

Why conduct a fatigue test?

Cyclic loading on a mechanical device can result in slow and insidious propagation of a crack which then leads to failure.  Materials can fail by fatigue at very low loads, well below the normal load applied to the device.  Fatigue testing is an important part of engineering design.
