Why conduct a corrosion test?

Welded plates, whether steel or aluminium for example can corrode more quickly than the parent material.  Specific corrosion tests are often conducted on welded plates to ensure that corrosion resistance has not been compromised through welding.  Often designer want to determine the life cycle of a material in a specific application.  It is helpful to conduct an appropriate corrosion test to determine the life cycle of engineering device in a specific application.
